Jeremy achieves Ashes dream after 19-year wait
Our director, Jeremy Ruggles, will be achieving a lifelong ambition during this summer’s Ashes series after ending a 19-year wait for a prestigious membership to the home of the sport.
As England take on Australia for the famous urn, Jeremy has even more reason than most to look forward to day one of the second test on Wednesday.
Just prior to the first ball being bowled in the first test, which was won by Australia after a thrilling encounter, Jeremy was notified that he had been given Full Membership of the MCC and is already looking forward to his first game under the sought-after accolade.
A lifelong passion for cricket
He said: “I have always loved cricket and watching it clears my mind from the day-to-day.
“So to think I will be watching the Ashes as a Full Member at Lords is something I’m very proud and something I can’t wait do.
“My membership was first acknowledged in July 2004 so it has almost been 20 years. But that’s not too bad when the current wait time is an estimated 29 years if you start now. All the waiting is worthwhile now its over.”
Eagerly anticipating the second test
Both in a personal and professional capacity, Jeremy is counting the days until the Second Test at Lords where he will take his prized Pavilion seat.
As well as being a lifelong fan of the sport, Jeremy has been involved in cricket throughout his working life due to his role at JS Wright.
Jeremy said: “It will feel very special watching the Ashes and these amazing cricketers knowing they are using bats that started life at J.S. Wright.”
Jeremy’s prediction for this year’s series?
Despite England losing the First Test, he remains confident, saying: “I have many cricketing highlights including seeing Sachin Tendulkar bat at Lords in 2011 and my grandfather taking me there in the 1980s to watch Essex in the final.
“I am looking forward to seeing more highlights this summer – and a 3-2 England win.”
